Subsidence of PFA fill
Man with leg UNDER foundation, the soil had subsided so much !
THe PFA (pulverised Fuel Ash) used for filling a low level site next to the river Thames in Thurrock had subsided so much, that it was safe for a colleague to carefully put his leg benouth the foundation to demonstrate the amount of subsidence.
Fortunately the building was founded on piled foundation but the entire site surround slumped so much that the delivery lorries could not use the loading bays until the site roads and hardstandings were levelled.
