Big changes to Building Regulations (yes more!)
Did you know that the progressive collapse requirements, previously associated with 5 storey buildings and higher, will now apply to most low rise buildings (from Dec 04). This will have significant implications to some previously simple building forms. The problem of providing vertical ties between floors will be a particular problem. This means that low rise non residential buildings can no longer be traditional buildings of loadbearing masonry. Instead ‘framed’ buildings will increasingly be required.
